Primary teacher at the Glasgow Gaelic School

I’m Paul Cassidy and I am 25 years old. I am a primary teacher at the Glasgow Gaelic School. I was born and brought up in Glasgow.

I picked up Gaelic at home when I was little, but I lost a lot when I was growing up. Although I had some Gaelic, I did not have any confidence to use the language at all. When my school was closed down at the end of my fourth year, I went to Hillpark Secondary and I discovered that they had a Gaelic unit there.

I began learning again and become more fluent. When I left school I went to Strathclyde University where I studied a degree in French and Spanish with a little Gaelic. Mòna Wilson was one of the lecturers in Gaelic. I knew that she worked in Jordanhill on the teaching courses and therefore I asked her for some advice on doing the PGDE. She was very supportive and I applied for the course, was successful at interview and went on to carry out the course.

It was hard work, but I am very pleased that I done it! I have now been teaching for two years. I am teaching a P7 class at the moment and I am enjoying it very mùch. What a fantastic job I have!!!!
